Presence
Steven Soderbergh pushes his film-making abilities with this nifty ghostly tale filmed completely through the eyes of a ghost. As a family including mother Rebekah and troubled teenage daughter Chloe settles into their new suburban house, the filming device – representing the ghost – tracks their movements. The daughter appears aware of the ghostly being, and it looks like protective of her. Yet what is the reason? This is an entertaining concept that avoids overstaying, with a twist that may be unexpected. This Saturday, afternoon and evening times, the Sky channel
Nicolas Cage's Meta Comedy
Cage wholeheartedly adopts his unique fame through this meta comedy caper. Contacted by the CIA to spy on the alleged criminal, his unconventional method is put to the test. This Saturday, evening, Channel 4
This Creepy Thriller
The director's locked-room horror holds up well despite the lack of a continuation. Taking place in 1970s Colorado, a series of child abductions has rendered the children anxious. Once Finney is taken by “the Grabber” and locked up in a dungeon, he fears the worst. However, the old telephone mounted nearby continues to ring, with eerie communicators giving advice, while the prophetic visions of his sister Gwen might rescue him. A solid creepfest. October 11th, 10.50pm, the Film4 channel
The Tammy Faye Biopic
In the conflict between faith and wealth, the winner is obvious for Mammon in this director's brilliantly over-the-top biopic of the disgraced TV preacher and her criminal husband. Andrew Garfield portrays the corrupt Bakker, who states initially, “God does not want us to be poor,”. He and Tammy Faye begin profiting from the nation's Christian beliefs. It's an extravaganza of bad interior design, bad makeup and hypocrisy, yet the lead actress manages to present the character as a sympathetic figure. October 14th, early morning, on Film4
Black Bag
The current week's another release from the filmmaker presents a spy mystery as sharp as the polo necks sported by Fassbender's British agent. He receives a mission to identify a double agent inside the organization from a group of five – one of whom is his spouse. The two stars are experts of understated style, so a delicious mind game of truth or lie takes place. Additional actors take part the intelligent intelligence fun. This Friday, multiple time slots, Sky Cinema
